The Oakland Turfgrass Education Initiative (OTEI) is a community outreach program for Oakland's inner-city youth. The OTEI program offers middle school and high school students the opportunity to explore the turf and landscape industry and the game of golf through:

- Internships
- Industry Conferences
- After-School Programs
- Scholarships
- Career and Job Fairs
- Golf Outings
- Special Community Projects
- Agricultural Chemistry and Plant Biology Courses
- Turf Seminars for High School and College Level Students
Study Tours take place at Metropolitan Golf Links in Oakland and other golf courses and environmental science related venues. Study Tours are funded by OTEI affording public and charter school students in Oakland the opportunity to learn about environmental science, agronomy, and the game of golf at little to no cost. Middle school and high school classes in Oakland are encouraged to contact OTEI to discuss organizing a Study Tour.
