I also am pleased
to announce that this past January our own Gary Ingram, CGCS was
named the 2009 Superintendent of the Year by the Golf Course
Superintendents Association of Northern California. This honor
recognizes the outstanding work Gary has done over the years to
support his profession and represent it in a positive light.
Gary has given so much time and effort to make all of our OTEI
programs successful that I couldn’t think of a more deserving
recipient for such an honor.
On August 16th,
Metropolitan Golf Links will once again play host to the Googie
and Friends Golf Tournament. Once again this year the decision
was made to make the event a fund raiser for all of the junior
golf programs in Oakland which not only includes OTEI but also
Ace Kids Golf, Lake Chabot Junior Golf Academy, the Metropolitan
Junior Golf Program and The First Tee of Oakland. We hope many
of you can join us that day to be part of this great event. You
can also participate by making a cash or prize donation or
sponsoring a tee. Remember, in the end this tournament will
support the youth that participate in all of the programs
throughout Oakland. Entry and sponsorship information can be
found on this website or by stopping by the golf course.
This tournament
is about collaboration. While each program has its own unique
characteristics we are all there for the common goal of serving
the youth of the community. By working together we can make each
of our individual programs stronger by being able to share these
special talents with one another. Thanks again to all of the
programs for supporting this effort.
We are also
pleased to announce a new partnership this year with the Oakland
Raiders. You can now purchase tickets right now to any Raider
home game for the upcoming season through OTEI. For each ticket
sold, OTEI will keep a portion of the proceeds to support our
programs. These tickets are already discounted and do not
include any of the usual fees you would pay when buying them
elsewhere. The Raiders have also pledged to help support our
efforts with other donations during the year. Additional
information and a ticket order flyer can also be found on this
website or feel free to contact me directly with your questions.
We look forward to working with the Raiders this upcoming
season.
Please remember
that we need your support to be able to continue to serve the
youth of Oakland. The opportunities above are just a few ways
you can support the work we do. We also are always looking for
volunteers to help with “study tours” so if you have some free
time please contact us about how you might be able to help.
Thanks and have
a great summer!!!!
