Aerification
Metropolitan Golf Links greens are known as some of the best in the area. As part of our preventive maintenance program to keep them in this condition, we are currently are doing a process known as core aerification. Many ask why we do this when the greens are in such good condition. Following is a video that should help explain the agronomic concepts for core aerification . Even though the video indicated differently, we at Metropolitan Golf links are proud that we focus on the greens being smooth and consistent when we complete the process in the next couple days. The overall speed will increase as the topdressing works into the turf canopy
Thanks for you continued support

Improvements to 2 Fairway
Guests have asked why we need to close 2 fairway to cart traffic periodically . The quick and simple answer is the soil and how cart traffic compacts this material to such an extent that it can destroy the turf This is primarily due to the high salt content and clay composition of this material This week we are continuing our turf and soil enhancement program to 2 fairway to improve this situation with the goal to increase cart traffic and a produce healthy turfgrass
In this photo we are core aerifying fairway
seed the troubled areas with bent and alkili grass- These species of seed have shown the best results a we modify the the soil into a better growing medium
and add an organic compost for plant nutrition and improve the soils structure
Thanks for your patience as we make improvement to Metropolitan Golf Links
Hope to see you on the Links

Coots
COOTS
WOW What a year for these critters!!!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Coot
Without any predators except a couple hawks at Metro and the abnormal weather patterns we believe their migratory patterns must have been altered. Therefore we have had more coots visiting us this year then I can remember. My colleagues at other courses inform me that we are not alone from this onslaught of coots Besides the enormous amount of clean-up we have added to our daily maintenance program we have increase our harassing and added some techniques hoping this will help encourage them move along with their migration . Besides our 2 dogs, we use lasers, noise makers, fencing, netting, and wires strung across our lake in numerous patterns and colors. None have been that effective so we keep to clean up there mess We will continue to be proactive with the situation, but hope there will move on SOON
THANKS FOR YOUR PATIENCE
